Toronto Island Workers, 2009 – 2013

As the politics and values of park management change it is the Island park workers, some who have worked in the park for thirty years, who are affected. Largely unseen, they implement the transformations of the park, carrying out their jobs on behalf of those who use the park, providing us with respite from the stress of city life. To me they are the unsung heroes who have made a life commitment to the land, investing themselves physically, emotionally and at times spiritually to the environment they nurture. This body of work was produced over the past two years and includes over 90 portraits. Thirty of the images were reproduced as life-size portraits in an outdoor installation on four buildings on Toronto Island in June of 2012 the work will be up till fall 2013.

Installation scale croped to 35"x 77" Chromogeniic prints, 30" x 40" editons of five.
